John Wall was cut from Broughton High School's varsity team over attitude issues, not talent, and transferred to Word of God Christian Academy to rebuild both his game and his mindset. Coach Levi Beckwith worked with him to stop demeaning teammates over missed shots and change his entire demeanor on the court. It worked: as a senior, Wall averaged 19.7 points and 9 assists a game, led the Holy Rams to the North Carolina state championship game, and left as the nation's top-ranked point guard before becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. Word of God retired his No. 11 and the city of Raleigh declared an official "John Wall Day" in his honor.
